Anxiety Treatment Using CBT

Anxiety disorders are debilitating chronic conditions that are present from an early age or are caused by a sudden, highly triggering event. These disorders surface at the time of high stress situations and are often accompanied by physical symptoms such as sweating, headache, palpitations and hypertension. This condition frequently leads to fatigue and exhaustion.

Anxiety disorders consist of fear (phobias) and anxieties. It is often accompanied by depression, which makes the person suffering from it more miserable. The experts believe that they are caused by a combination of environmental (triggering situations) and biological (physical symptoms).

These disorders are, however, treatable. People suffering from them can be helped through professional care. The time these treatment techniques take varies from person to person. One may take just a few months to be treated while another one can take more than a year. The major factor affecting the treatment time depends upon the situation which caused this disorder. Another can be the coping ability of the person. Hence, it is suggested to go for a treatment that is designed to suit the needs of the affected people individually.

CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one such technique that is tailor made for individuals. In this type of therapy, the affected person learns new methods to change his old thinking and habits. It is a short-term version of psychotherapy and uses ‘talking’ as its main technique. The person is involved in his own recovery; he analyzes the situation (which is the cause of anxiety disorder), his thoughts and feelings and finally his reaction to it. All this analysis is done separately (in parts) so that the person knows exactly what went wrong and where it went wrong.

Since the cause of the problem is known through this analysis process, the person has far better chances of coping up with the situation. This is done by changing his thinking and behavior. When this happens, emotional changes automatically follow and so does the reaction he gives to various situations. Now since the person has applied a whole new sense of perception to the situation, he is likely to respond to it in a whole new way, thus highly reducing the chances of being affected by the anxiety disorders that he suffered due to his response previously.

Thus, CBT doesn’t give medicines to overcome the disorders; instead, it changes the person’s perspective towards the whole situation. A major factor in getting a successful CBT is choosing a good therapist and one with whom you are comfortable and will have no hesitation in talking. Finding a good therapist in Denver is easy if you do a little research over the internet or visit a good directory.
