Your Pearly Whites: Why Cheese Is Good and Mouthwash Is Bad (Seriously!)

The latest news on dental health is pretty surprising. For instance, researchers are now saying that cheese might be good for your teeth. And mouthwash? Not so much. Read on to get the surprising details ...

First, let's talk cheese: This recent post from FitSugar made a few of us at Glamour do a double take. Cheese as a cavity fighter? Here's what they had to say:

"From its texture to its mineral contents, cheese helps keep your teeth healthy. The texture of cheese actually increases the secretion of saliva, which helps keep cavities at bay. Nutrients found in cheese, like calcium, phosphorous, and protein, actually neutralize plaque. Eating a chunk of cheese after a sugary treat will neutralize the negative effects that sugar has on your teeth. Plus, cheese might also help remineralize tooth enamel, which means stronger teeth."

Your Happiness: Do You Trust Your Gut?

When you're faced with a huge decision, are you the type to make lists and ponder endlessly? Or do you act on instinct? A new study shows that trusting your intuition might lead to smarter choices...

In five separate studies, researchers found that better judgments are often made without much hemming and hawing. Surprisingly, the more complex the decision, the less useful deliberation became. For example, when participants rated apartments on three characteristics (location, price, and size) deliberation proved useful. But when the decision became more complex (with nine characteristics) the participants who deliberated made worse decisions. "People who deliberated on their preferences were less consistent than those who made non-deliberative judgments," study authors Loran F. Nordgren and Ap Dijksterhuis wrote.

Have you glanced south of the border lately? It can tell you some surprising things about your fertility, say some experts. The really weird details ...

****

OK, let's veer into slightly embarrassing territory for a sec: Your pubic hair. Does it grow in a nice and semi-tidy triangle? Or does it spread out beyond your bikini line onto your legs and up above your underwear line, even a bit to your lower stomach? Some call this a "square" shape, and if you have it, it could be a sign of something called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which may lessen your chances of getting pregnant.

According to Self magazine: "Caused by excess male sex hormones, PCOS can spur body-hair growth and disrupt ovulation. 'Some women with PCOS don't realize something's wrong until they have trouble conceiving,' says Katherine Johnston, M.D., instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
